My final movie that I want to give praise to is another great thriller. Training Day is one of those movies that I watch every time it is on television, even when they bleep out curse words or edit out a violent part of a scene. The very underrated Antoine Fuqua directed this cult classic which was nominated for two Academy Awards.
Denzel Washington stars in Training Day as LAPD Detective Alonzo Harris, a brazen man that heads a specialized group of undercover cops. He is tasked with showing the ropes to a rookie that has joined his team, Officer Jake Hoyt played by Ethan Hawke. Hoyt is very wet behind the ears and does not realize that he has joined up with dirty cops thus landing him in many pressurized situations throughout the film.
Washington gives, in my opinion, his greatest performance ever which is saying alot as he has been in many great movies. But Fuqua's dirty cop role in Training Day was tailor made for Washington and well received by the masses as this was the only Best Actor oscar win for him in his illustrious career thus far. Hawke's good guy is exactly what was needed to counter Washington's bad guy as they butt heads several times in the film before a heated and very eventful ending.
